Why Teach?

Hello, my name is Teresa. I am currently a junior majoring in early elementary education. I have always loved being around children. I love how innocent and caring they are. It brings joy to me. I used to babysit while in high school for my parents' friends. I was motivated by my 5th and 11th grade teachers. In elementary I struggled to read and understand certain subjects due to being dyslexic. My 5th grade teacher would stay after school and do tutoring with me to catch me up. She inspired me because she took the time to help me progress in my school work. Then in high school I was very unsure on what I wanted to do with my future. It wasn’t until I was put into my elective called instructional practice. I ended up going to elementary’s and shadowing teachers for a full year. I did it for two years and the teachers I got to shadow really admired me to pursue a career. Being able to learn how to do lesson plans and of course being able to see students achieve new goals was very exciting. I loved being able to see a student accomplish something new. It’s rewarding for a teacher to see a student accomplish their goal. Being able to see the smile they have on their face while doing it as well. I do want to teach children. I want to make an impact on their life the way my teachers did.

I want to be a kindergarten teacher, teaching all subjects. I would love to teach all subjects so my future students can have a well rounded teacher. Young children have a sponge for the brain. They love to learn. I want to be the reason why our future generation grows with reading and writing. I love that children have a passion to learn. The setting I want for my classroom is to teach kindness. I want my students to maintain their innocence and look at the world with joy instead of negativity. My passions that I love to do outside my job are reading books. I love to go hiking and enjoy the outside scenery. I’m a family oriented girl. Family time is very important to me. Another passion that I really believe in is helping others. I believe that’s why I want to pursue a career in education. I love the idea of being able to help students grow. The idea of being able to teach them right from wrong with other things beside school. I’m a person who also gets to guide them in their life. I hope I make an impact on their life the way my past teachers did.

Lastly, @lovemsslater is a teacher on tik tok. I watched some of her videos and really liked how she presented herself and her classroom. She shows the struggles but also highlights the good in her classroom. When I watched her videos I loved it because it shows the reality of teaching.

  2. Hi and Welcome to you Teresa! You are so fortunate to have had the experiences you did with a dedicated teacher in 5th grade. That is just lovely to read. And, you seem to share that person's passion for teaching.
